Genoa is small, with about 1,300 residents and about 540 households, but its houses are not. About 93 percent are single-family detached, 90 percent are owner-occupied and about 9 percent of homes are seasonal or second homes. The median home value in the Census count is about $1 million. ## Seven rooms and what they hold A seven-room house has room for a formal dining room, a library, a guest suite and a pantry. Each one adds a distinct job to the packing list. Libraries mean books, which go in small cartons. Dining rooms mean china, crystal and a sideboard. Guest suites mean linens and bed frames that need to be wrapped and padded. The estimator walks every room, including the ones that are closed up, and itemizes the packing on the estimate. A larger house is priced on what is in it, not on the square footage alone. ## Art, antiques and heirlooms Larger and older houses in a place like Genoa often hold art and antiques. The crew wraps framed pieces in picture cartons, builds custom crates for glass, art and antiques, and protects furniture with pads and wrap. See [custom crating](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/custom-crating/) and the guide to [packing artwork](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-to-pack-artwork/). - Paintings and mirrors in picture cartons - Crates built for fragile or oversize pieces - China and crystal wrapped one piece at a time - Furniture wrapped and padded before loading ## Second homes and seasonal households With about one home in eleven used as a seasonal or second home, some Genoa packs are for a house that is used part of the year. Closing up a second home means packing linens, kitchenware and anything that should not stay behind. The crew can pack it, and the vaults in our warehouse can hold what the house does not need. See [seasonal and second-home storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/seasonal-and-second-home-storage/). ## The route from Sparks Genoa is about 45 miles and 59 minutes from the Sparks warehouse, via I-580 and US 395. Boxes and wrapping supplies are sold at 2277 Glendale Ave, open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and the estimator's visit is scheduled in advance. ## Packing for a move away When a Genoa household leaves Nevada, the crew packs for an interstate shipment and makes an itemized inventory and condition report before packing. The long-distance move runs through the Bekins network. August 4, 2023 Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
