Johnson Lane is a community of about 6,500 residents and 2,600 households south of Carson City, and about 94 percent of homes are owner-occupied. The median home was built in 1995 and has 5.9 rooms, and about 1,640 of roughly 2,800 homes have three bedrooms. ## Packing a property, not just a house When nearly every home is detached, the move is not only about the rooms inside. Garages, workshops, tool sheds, hobby spaces and outdoor storage all hold things. Tools, bikes, camping gear, saddles and garden equipment each need their own boxing, wrapping or padding. Your estimator walks the property, not just the house, and the estimate lists each building. This keeps the day of the move from turning up a surprise shed. ## The things that surprise people Heavy things in small spaces are the main packing risk on a property like this. Cartons of tools or paint can weigh more than a person should lift. The crew packs heavy goods into small cartons and builds loads so the heaviest items ride low in the truck. Outdoor furniture and equipment are wrapped and padded to keep scratches off. See the guide to [packing a garage and tools](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-to-pack-a-garage/). - Tool chests in small, labeled cartons - Outdoor furniture padded and wrapped - Bicycles and sports gear grouped by owner - Household goods packed room by room ## Choosing how much help Owners here often have the time to pack part of the house themselves. A partial pack covers the kitchen, the breakables and the pictures, and the family packs clothes and books. Another option is box packing only, with the crew packing and your own truck carrying. See [partial packing](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/partial-packing/). ## Supplies and the Sparks office Boxes, tape, paper and bubble wrap are sold at the Sparks office, 2277 Glendale Ave, about 45 miles and 71 minutes from Johnson Lane by I-580 and US 395. The [packing calculator](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/tools/packing-calculator/) gives a box count before you go, and the first 10 heavy-duty boxes are free with the in-home estimate. ## After the pack Packed cartons go onto the truck for the new home or into wooden vaults in the warehouse. Vault storage starts at $40 per month. August 4, 2023 Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
