Each move begins with a free in-home estimate that plans for rural access and the long history in each house. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) ## Johnson Lane: Age and time in the home - Median age 60.2 - Householders in their home since before 2020 84.6% - Homes owned 94% - Median year built 1995 Data: [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html). Johnson Lane sits on the benchland above the Carson Valley at about 5,895 feet, with roughly 6,500 residents and about 2,600 households. Only about 6 percent of housing is rented, so nearly everyone here is moving out of a home they own. ## The rural-home move Homes in Johnson Lane were built around 1995 on average and often sit on larger lots with workshops and garages. A senior downsizing from there has a lot of outdoor equipment as well as furniture. Tell the estimator about every outbuilding, because those items are part of the load. ## The drive and the elevation The warehouse is about 45 miles away, but the drive takes around 71 minutes, longer than the mileage suggests, because the route climbs and descends through valley roads. The elevation is nearly 6,000 feet, so winter conditions can affect a schedule. See [moving in winter](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-in-winter/) for how the crew handles snow and ice. ## Getting a truck to the door Private roads and long driveways are common. The estimator checks the turning space and may recommend a smaller truck with a shuttle. Mention gates, cattle guards and steep pitches so there are no surprises. ## Moving closer to services Some Johnson Lane owners are moving closer to medical care and shopping, in Minden, Gardnerville or Carson City. Others join family farther away. Either way, items you want to hold can wait in storage. See [vault storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/vault-storage/). ## Median age and what it suggests A median age near 60 means that a large share of households are in or approaching retirement. For many of them the home is the largest asset, and moves are often tied to health, to being near children or to the work of maintaining a large lot. The estimator listens to that reason first because it sets the pace of the move. ## Clearing a large lot Larger parcels collect equipment: ladders, hoses, ride-on mowers, wood piles and storage containers. Make three piles: keep, give away, haul. Items to keep move with the crew; the rest are easiest to handle with a haul-away service you arrange yourself, before moving day, so the crew can load without delay. ## Where to start A phone call at 775-359-6683 begins the process.
