The north side of Reno is home to the University of Nevada, Reno, and its housing and population reflect it. Students, young workers, families and longtime residents share the same neighborhoods. The Census figures behind this page cover ZIP 89512, with about 11,400 households and a median home built in 1982. The tempo of moving is faster here than almost anywhere else in the valley. ## Move-out weeks come in waves About 23 percent of residents moved in the past year, and about 40 percent of householders moved in during 2020 or later. Part of that is the school calendar. Leases tend to start and end around the semester, and the weeks after finals are busy for every mover in town. If your date is tied to a lease or a term, call as soon as you know it. Even a few weeks ahead widens your choice of days. Student and shared-house moves are usually smaller loads: a bed, a desk, a dresser and a lot of boxes. A short move with a small crew can be priced from the in-home estimate or a phone ballpark. For a household or an institution furnishing many rooms, see [dormitory and student-housing furniture installation](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/commercial-moving/ffe/dormitories/). ## Older streets, older houses About 48 percent of homes here were built before 1980. Many are single-story homes and small apartment buildings with narrow doorways and tight parking. About 28 percent of homes are detached houses, and the rest are duplexes and apartments. Walk the route with the estimator: front steps, stairs, ceiling height and the path from the door to the curb are what shape the plan. ## A quick drive from Sparks At 3.8 miles the drive is among the shortest in Reno. The route uses I-80 for about a mile and a half, then city streets. The area is about 180 feet higher than the warehouse, so a snowy morning here can look different than it does on Glendale Avenue. ## Home, small business and the medical district The north side also has offices and small shops. Our commercial crews work evenings and weekends by arrangement; see [office moving in North Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/office-moving/). ## Storage for a gap between leases When a lease ends before the next begins, a vault in our warehouse holds the furniture from $40 per month. August 28, 2024 Extremely happy with the moving experience. The moving team showed up on time, friendly and polite. They did a wonderful job moving our boxes and furniture to the new location. We moved a three bedroom home and I could not be more pleased with the employees who assisted with the move. Highly recommend O'Brien moving for your move. ### Owner's reply Michelle, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We are so happy to hear about the move experience you had with our company and glad to know we met your expectations! It means a lot to us to know that. Thank you for choosing us as your moving partner. S Sonia P. August 4, 2023 Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!! J Jennifer C. August 3, 2023 Customer service, packers, and loaders were very responsive, professional, and did an overall great job. ## Get your free, in-home moving estimate An estimator visits, walks through everything and gives you a written, itemized estimate.
