O'Brien's crews pack by room, and 10 free heavy-duty boxes come with the free in-home estimate. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) ## North Reno and the University area: Homes and rooms - Median rooms per home 3.9 - Single-family detached homes 28.4% - Homes by bedrooms no bedroom: 1,976, 1: 2,293, 2: 4,278, 3: 2,575, 4: 1,158, 5+: 437 - Built before 1980 47.5% Data: [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html). North Reno around the University of Nevada campus is a neighborhood in motion. The Census figures for this ZIP count 11,442 households, with fewer than a third owning their homes and a median of 3.9 rooms. It is about 4 miles and 9 minutes from our yard in Sparks, reached on I-80. ## A move rate above the city's Reno as a whole has about 18 percent of residents moving each year; here the figure is 23 percent. A campus-area neighborhood has students, staff, and households that move for work or lease changes, and it shows in the numbers. Many people here have moved before and know how much faster a pack goes when the crew handles the fragile items. ## Houses and apartments side by side About 28 percent of homes are single-family detached, and the rest are apartments and attached units. Two-bedroom homes (about 4,300) are the most common, followed by three-bedroom homes (about 2,600) and one-bedrooms (about 2,300). That mix means one street may have a four-room apartment and the next a five-room house, and the packing plan for each is different. ## Older homes near the university About 48 percent of homes in the ZIP were built before 1980. Older houses have framed art, bookcases and furniture meant to stay, so books go in small cartons, shelves are emptied and wall pieces go into picture cartons. See [home staging and declutter help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/home-staging-and-declutter/) if you are preparing a home to sell. ## Tight turnarounds When one lease ends and another begins on the same day, packing has to be done early. Your estimator can set the pack for the day before moving day and list both on the written estimate. If your keys come a day after you must be out, vaults in our Sparks warehouse hold the cartons until delivery; see [storage between homes](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/storage-between-moves/). ## A few packing tips for rental moves - Pack books in small cartons so they can be carried - Keep chargers and bedding in one clearly marked box - Photograph wall damage before pictures come down - Ask the crew to pack glassware and framed art ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [FMCSA, Protect Your Move](https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Professional packing services](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/) - [Partial packing and box-packing-only service](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/partial-packing/) - [Short-term storage between homes (storage in transit)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/storage-between-moves/) - [Movers in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Packing services in North Valleys and Stead (89506)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-valleys-stead/packing/) - [Packing services in East Sparks (89434)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/east-sparks/packing/) - [Packing services in Wingfield Springs and Northeast Sparks (89436)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/wingfield-springs/packing/) - [Packing services in Spanish Springs](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/spanish-springs/packing/) - [Packing services in Sun Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/sun-valley/packing/) - [Packing services in Lemmon Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/lemmon-valley/packing/) - [Movers in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/) In North Reno and the University area ## More services in North Reno and the University area - [Storage for North Reno and the University area (89512) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/storage/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/senior-moving/) - [Office and commercial moving in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/office-moving/) Answers ## Packing services in North Reno and the University area (89512) questions Still have a question?
