University and North Reno has a young population: a median age of 32.8, with 28.6 percent of homes owned and a median build year of 1982. Churn is high, since more than one resident in five moved in the past year. An older adult leaving a longtime home here is moving against that current, and often has the most to sort. ## Why long tenure means more to sort A neighborhood where many people move every year has fewer long-term residents, and those who stay accumulate the most. About 48 percent of homes were built before 1980, and a household that has been in one for decades has decades of belongings. The estimator schedules a longer visit for those homes. ## Moving when the street is busy A neighborhood with many renters has heavier parking and more move-in days at the start and end of each month. Ask the estimator about timing a senior move mid-month, when streets near the truck are easier. [Moving-day tips](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-day-tips/) has more on loading-day logistics. ## Sorting with family Family members often come to help over a weekend. The best use of that weekend is to make decisions about large furniture, since the crew can pack the small things. The [guide to downsizing for seniors](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/downsizing-for-seniors/) lists the questions to ask about each big piece: does it fit the new space, who in the family wants it, and does it need to be stored. ## A short run, a flexible plan The warehouse at Glendale Ave is 3.8 miles and 9 minutes from University and North Reno by way of I-80. A vault in the warehouse costs from $40 per month, and the [vault sizer](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/tools/storage-vault-sizer/) gives a quick count. About 2 to 3 weeks notice ships stored goods. ## Choosing how much help Some households want the crew to pack everything. Others pack the personal items themselves and hand the kitchen, garage and furniture to the crew. Both are listed on separate lines of the estimate, so the family can see what each choice adds. Boxes can be bought at the Sparks office, and 10 free heavy-duty boxes come with the in-home estimate. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Administration for Community Living, Eldercare Locator](https://eldercare.acl.gov/home) - [USPS, Mover's Guide](https://moversguide.usps.com/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) - [Downsizing for seniors](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/downsizing-for-seniors/) - [Movers in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/) - [Long-term household storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/long-term-storage/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Senior moves and downsizing in North Valleys and Stead (89506)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-valleys-stead/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in East Sparks (89434)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/east-sparks/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Wingfield Springs and Northeast Sparks (89436)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/wingfield-springs/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Spanish Springs](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/spanish-springs/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Sun Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/sun-valley/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Lemmon Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/lemmon-valley/senior-moving/) - [Movers in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/) In North Reno and the University area ## More services in North Reno and the University area - [Packing services in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/packing/) - [Storage for North Reno and the University area (89512) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/storage/) - [Office and commercial moving in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/office-moving/) Answers ## Senior moves and downsizing in North Reno and the University area (89512) questions Still have a question?
