O'Brien's Moving & Storage is 4.9 miles and about 10 minutes away. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) ## Old Southwest Reno by the numbers - Drive from our Sparks warehouse 5 mi, about 10 min via SR 653 - Population 35,632 - Households 16,788 - Homes owned / rented 55.5% / 44.5% - Median year built 1975 - Median home value $703,700 - Moved in the past year 15.9% - Elevation 4,617 ft - County Washoe County - ZIP codes 89509 Figures for ZIP 89509 as a whole. Data (read 2026-10-19): [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html); [OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, free-flow drive from 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks](https://project-osrm.org/); [USGS Elevation Point Query Service](https://apps.nationalmap.gov/epqs/). Old Southwest is the part of Reno that people picture when they think of established streets and mature trees. ZIP 89509 covers much of it, and the Census numbers support the picture: older homes, higher values than the city as a whole, and a population that is roughly 55 percent owners. A move from here is rarely a quick one, because an older house holds more than its square footage suggests. ## Older houses, narrower access The median home in this ZIP dates to 1975, and a large share are older still. Houses of that age often have a steep front stoop, a narrow or turning stairway, a detached garage and mature trees and shrubs along the walk. Large pieces need a plan. The estimator looks at door widths and stair turns during the walk-through, and the crew brings pads and runners to protect hardwood floors and plaster edges that have been there for decades. Because the houses are older, the furniture often is too. Antique cabinets, upright pianos and glass-fronted hutches turn up in homes like these. Our [fine art and antique moving](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/specialty-moving/fine-art-and-antiques/) and [custom crating](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/custom-crating/) pages describe how those pieces are wrapped and carried. ## A neighborhood where people stay and then downsize About 29 percent of householders here moved in during 2020 or later, a lower share than in most of Reno, so more people have lived in their homes for years. When a long stay ends, the job is often a downsizing one: decades of belongings, a smaller place, and a family helping from a distance. Our [senior moving help for Old Southwest](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/senior-moving/) covers sorting, packing and setting up the new rooms. ## The drive in from Sparks The route from Glendale Avenue runs along city streets and a state route for about two of its miles, then into the grid of older blocks. At 4.9 miles and 10 minutes it is a short trip, so a crew can load in the morning and unload to a new address or to the warehouse the same day. ## Furniture delivery and white-glove work Homes at this value level often receive new furniture from showrooms and designers. Our [white-glove delivery](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/white-glove-delivery/) places pieces in the right room, assembles them and takes away the packing material. ## Plan the day around parking Older blocks have narrow streets and cars parked on both sides. Tell the estimator where the truck can stop, and consider asking neighbors to leave the curb open for the morning. A truck that can stand close to the door saves time on every trip. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [City of Reno](https://www.reno.gov/) - [Washoe County](https://www.washoecounty.gov/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Packing services in Old Southwest Reno (89509)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/packing/) - [Storage for Old Southwest Reno (89509) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/storage/) - [Movers in Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/reno/) - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) ## Services in Old Southwest Reno 4 - [### Packing services in Old Southwest Reno (89509)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/packing/) - [### Storage for Old Southwest Reno (89509) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/storage/) - [### Senior moves and downsizing in Old Southwest Reno (89509)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/senior-moving/) - [### White-glove furniture delivery in Old Southwest Reno (89509)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/white-glove-delivery/) Nearby ## Other towns in this area - [Movers in Caughlin Ranch (89519)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/caughlin-ranch/) - [Movers in Northwest Reno and Somersett (89523)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northwest-reno-somersett/) - [Movers in South Reno and Damonte Ranch (89521)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/south-reno-damonte-ranch/) - [Movers in Galena, Montreux and the Mt.
