Old Southwest Reno is, by the Census numbers, an old-housing neighborhood: a median build year of 1975 and nearly two homes in three from before 1980. The median age is 41.4 and 55.5 percent of homes are owned. A house that has been in a family for many years keeps its history in the closets, and that history is what a senior move has to sort. ## What older homes keep Houses from the 1950s, 60s and 70s were built with a lot of storage: hall closets, built-in cabinets, attics and crawl spaces. Over the years those fill. A move from one of them rarely means one room of boxes. It means going through each closet, and the estimator walks all of it, writing down what is going and what is staying. ## Fragile things from other decades Long ownership usually means china, glass, framed photographs and furniture with a story. Those get hand wrapping and padded cartons, and a few items may need more. Large antique pieces are covered in [moving antiques safely](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-antiques/), and a piano is planned separately, as described in [how pianos are moved](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-to-move-a-piano/). ## A high-value neighborhood means a sale A median home value of $703,700 means that for many owners here the home is the biggest asset in the family. Selling it is part of the plan, so the move and the sale have to line up. Furniture that is not needed in the new place can wait in the warehouse during showings, and [storage while you sell your home](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/storage-while-selling-a-home/) explains how. The [de-clutter and home-staging help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/home-staging-and-declutter/) page covers rearranging what stays. ## Distance from the warehouse Old Southwest Reno is about 4.9 miles and 10 minutes from 2277 Glendale Ave, so a crew can make a short run to the vaults the same day. Vault storage starts from $40 per month. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Administration for Community Living, Eldercare Locator](https://eldercare.acl.gov/home) - [USPS, Mover's Guide](https://moversguide.usps.com/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) - [Downsizing for seniors](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/downsizing-for-seniors/) - [Movers in Old Southwest Reno (89509)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/) - [Storage for Old Southwest Reno (89509) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/old-southwest-reno/storage/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Senior moves and downsizing in Caughlin Ranch (89519)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/caughlin-ranch/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Northwest Reno and Somersett (89523)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northwest-reno-somersett/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in South Reno and Damonte Ranch (89521)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/south-reno-damonte-ranch/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Galena, Montreux and the Mt. Call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683), Mon-Fri 8-5, or see the [moving FAQ](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/faq/). ### How long before the move should I call? As early as the plan is firm. The guide on [how far ahead to book movers](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-far-ahead-to-book-movers/) explains why, and a phone ballpark is free before the in-home visit. ### Can the crew take apart built-in furniture? Tell the estimator about it at the visit. Whatever is part of the job is listed on the estimate. ### Does the home need to be empty before the estimate? No. The estimator wants to see the rooms as they are, with the closets full. ## 4.3 stars from 71 Google reviews What customers say about O'Brien's [Read more reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/)[See them on Google](https://maps.google.com/maps?cid=17335326057105140938) N Nadine K.
