Placerville is the El Dorado County seat, a foothill town of about 10,800 people on US 50. Placerville is an older town: the median home dates to 1975, and a Gold Rush era downtown means a good share of the housing is far older than that. ## Old houses on hillside streets Census estimates put 58 percent of Placerville homes before 1980, and about 730 units were built in 1939 or earlier, roughly one in seven. Hillside lots, steep driveways and narrow streets come with that age. When the estimator visits, we note where the truck can park and whether the crew needs a longer carry to the door. Older homes also hold antiques and heirlooms. Wrapping, padding and, where needed, custom crating protect them; see [packing services](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/). ## Owners and renters in balance About 58 percent of households own and 42 percent rent. Two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes are nearly equal in number, at roughly 2,000 each. The median rent is $1,234, the lowest of the three foothill towns with a mid-sized population, and the median home value is $473,100. Seasonal and recreational homes make up about 4 percent of units, so some moves start at a second home rather than a main residence. ## The US 50 route The drive from Sparks begins on I-580 for about 34 miles toward Carson City and then follows US 50 for about 84 miles over the Sierra. Placerville sits near 1,950 feet. The mountain stretch is higher and snowier than the town, so winter loads may wait on a storm to clear. The time on the road, 165 minutes, is the longest of the group because of mountain miles rather than distance alone. ## Moving to Nevada or staying in California A move from Placerville to Reno, Carson City or elsewhere in Nevada is interstate, under U.S. DOT No. 30611 and MC-109375, and the Bekins network carries it. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. Our [Placerville to Reno page](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/long-distance-moving/routes/placerville-to-reno/) covers that route. A move to Sacramento or Folsom is handled under O'Brien's California permit, Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). ## Services for Placerville households - Full, partial or box-only packing - Packing supplies sold at the Sparks office - Vault storage from $40 per month - Auto transport with a move - Moves for seniors downsizing from a family home ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [City of Placerville](https://www.cityofplacerville.org/) - [Caltrans, Quick Map](https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Moving from Placerville and El Dorado County to Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/long-distance-moving/routes/placerville-to-reno/) - [Moving to, from and around Truckee, Tahoe and Northern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/northern-california-moving/) - [Free in-home moving estimate (plus 10 free heavy-duty boxes)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/free-estimate/) - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) Nearby ## Other towns in this area - [Movers in Quincy](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/quincy/) - [Movers in Susanville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/susanville/) - [Movers in Portola](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/portola/) - [Movers in Grass Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/grass-valley/) - [Movers in Auburn](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/auburn/) - [Movers in Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/reno/) - [Movers in Sparks](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/sparks/) - [Movers in Downtown and Midtown Reno (89501)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/downtown-midtown-reno/) - [Susanville, Portola and northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/) Moves within California ## Permitted in California O'Brien's Moving & Storage moves households within California under its own authority: Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). A move between Nevada and California crosses a state line, so it is an interstate move under our federal authority (U.S. DOT No. 30611, MC-109375) instead.
