Quincy is the Plumas County seat, a mountain town of about 1,300 people, set at roughly 3,870 feet. It is the smallest of our California towns and the oldest by housing, with a median home year of 1967 and a median age of 59. A move here is a small-town move with a mountain road attached. ## A small, settled, older town Quincy has about 480 households, and more than two thirds of the 649 homes were built before 1980. Roughly 150 date from 1939 or earlier. Nobody in the Census estimate moved in from another state last year; the movement that does occur is inside California. Because the town is small, the Census numbers are estimates with real room for error, so treat them as a picture of the town rather than a count. ## Lower prices on homes, more seasonal use The median home value is $300,500, well under the other foothill towns, and the median rent is $1,026. About 7 percent of housing units are seasonal or recreational. Some of our work here starts at a vacation home that a family is closing out, and some starts with a long-time owner downsizing. Senior moves and downsizing get extra time at the estimate; read about [senior moving](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/). ## The mountain road The shortest drive of the four, in miles, is 82.5, but it takes about 1 h 55 min because it climbs. The route runs I-580 for about 17 miles, US 395 for about 7 and CA 70 for the remaining stretch into Plumas County. At 3,870 feet Quincy has real winters, with snow on the ground for stretches of the season. A winter move is planned around the weather, and the schedule moves with it. The nearby communities of Portola and Susanville are part of the same region; see [northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/). ## To Nevada or around California A move from Quincy to Reno or Sparks is an interstate move under U.S. DOT No. 30611 and MC-109375, carried through the Bekins network. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. A move within California, say Quincy to Chico or Sacramento, is handled under O'Brien's California permit, Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). ## What we bring to a Quincy move - A free in-home estimate and 10 free heavy-duty boxes - Packing, full or partial - Vault storage in Sparks, from $40 per month - Pianos, appliances and other heavy items ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Plumas County](https://www.plumascounty.us/) - [Caltrans, Quick Map](https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Susanville, Portola and northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/) - [Moving to, from and around Truckee, Tahoe and Northern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/northern-california-moving/) - [Free in-home moving estimate (plus 10 free heavy-duty boxes)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/free-estimate/) - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) Nearby ## Other towns in this area - [Movers in Susanville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/susanville/) - [Movers in Portola](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/portola/) - [Movers in Grass Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/grass-valley/) - [Movers in Auburn](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/auburn/) - [Movers in Placerville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/placerville/) - [Movers in Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/reno/) - [Movers in Sparks](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/sparks/) - [Movers in Downtown and Midtown Reno (89501)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/downtown-midtown-reno/) - [Susanville, Portola and northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/) Moves within California ## Permitted in California O'Brien's Moving & Storage moves households within California under its own authority: Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). A move between Nevada and California crosses a state line, so it is an interstate move under our federal authority (U.S. DOT No. 30611, MC-109375) instead.
