South Reno and Damonte Ranch is the newest housing in this part of Reno: a median build year of 2007 and only 9 percent of homes from before 1980. The median age is 41.3, about 69 percent of homes are owner-occupied and more than 16,800 households live here. Seniors in an area like this are often the ones who bought new homes and stayed, or the parents of the people who did. ## Six rooms and a three-car garage Homes with a median of 6 rooms leave room to accumulate. Seasonal decorations, sports equipment, a home gym and a workshop corner are common in houses of this size, and the estimator writes down each of them. Where a household is moving to a one-level condo, those items are the first conversation about what to keep. ## Moving a parent into your home With about 34 percent of householders arriving in 2020 or later, this is a younger area where many moves are family moves: a parent coming from another city to live nearby, or an older relative leaving a small place for a bigger room in a son's or daughter's house. The crew can set up the bedroom the way it was, with the bed assembled and the dresser in place. See [moving a parent to assisted living](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-a-parent-to-assisted-living/) and the [senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) for planning from a distance. ## Distance and the I-580 corridor South Reno is 9.8 miles and 14 minutes from our warehouse at 2277 Glendale Ave, mostly on I-580, and the area sits at about 4,500 feet. The drive is level and quick, which helps when a household wants a few pieces taken to storage in the morning and the rest moved in the afternoon. ## The extra bedroom that becomes storage Pieces that cannot go yet can wait in wooden vaults, 7 ft x 7 ft x 5 ft, in our Sparks warehouse. [Vault storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/vault-storage/) starts from $40 per month, and the [vault sizer](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/tools/storage-vault-sizer/) gives a first count. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Administration for Community Living, Eldercare Locator](https://eldercare.acl.gov/home) - [USPS, Mover's Guide](https://moversguide.usps.com/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) - [Senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) - [Movers in South Reno and Damonte Ranch (89521)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/south-reno-damonte-ranch/) - [Professional packing services](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Senior moves and downsizing in Galena, Montreux and the Mt.
