In Southeast Reno most households are renters, nearly two-thirds of homes were built before 1980 and the median home has 4.1 rooms. The Census counts more than 19,000 households and a median age of 34.6, so the older adults here are living among many younger neighbors. Whatever the size of the home, the move still needs a plan. ## A move that starts in a rental When a household rents, the end date of the lease sets the clock. A senior who must be out by the first of the month needs the packing done a few days earlier, and the crew needs the date to fit around it. Talk with the office about the lease date as soon as you have it. The guide on [how far ahead to book movers](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-far-ahead-to-book-movers/) explains why the calendar fills. ## Small rooms, careful carrying Homes with about 4 rooms and a median build year of 1977 often have narrow hallways and compact kitchens. The crew pads corners, removes doors from their hinges when needed, and wraps pieces that must squeeze past a turn. The [how to pack a kitchen](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-to-pack-a-kitchen/) guide shows how the kitchen is packed in the order that makes unpacking fastest. ## Single-family houses are the minority Only 33.5 percent of homes here are single-family detached, so apartments, duplexes and townhomes make up most of the neighborhood. For these, tell the estimator about parking, stairs and the distance from the truck to the front door. [Apartment and condo moves](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/local-moving/apartments-and-condos/) covers what to ask your building. ## Close to the warehouse At 5.3 miles, Southeast Reno is near enough that storage is a practical fix for a gap between leases. Furniture waits in a wooden vault, and [vault storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/vault-storage/) starts from $40 per month. ## What to have ready for the visit Before the estimator comes, gather the lease or sale dates, the address of the new place and a list of anything with special care needs, such as a clock, a framed print or a sewing machine. A short list saves time and makes the estimate more exact. The 10 free heavy-duty boxes can be used for the first round of sorting. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Administration for Community Living, Eldercare Locator](https://eldercare.acl.gov/home) - [USPS, Mover's Guide](https://moversguide.usps.com/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) - [Senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) - [Movers in Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/southeast-reno/) - [Apartment and condo moves](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/local-moving/apartments-and-condos/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Senior moves and downsizing in West Reno (89503)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/west-reno/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in North Reno and the University area (89512)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-reno-university/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in North Valleys and Stead (89506)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/north-valleys-stead/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in East Sparks (89434)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/east-sparks/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Wingfield Springs and Northeast Sparks (89436)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/wingfield-springs/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Spanish Springs](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/spanish-springs/senior-moving/) - [Movers in Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/southeast-reno/) In Southeast Reno and Hidden Valley ## More services in Southeast Reno and Hidden Valley - [Packing services in Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/southeast-reno/packing/) - [Storage for Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502) households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/southeast-reno/storage/) - [Office and commercial moving in Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/southeast-reno/office-moving/) Answers ## Senior moves and downsizing in Southeast Reno and the Airport area (89502) questions Still have a question?
