Susanville is the Lassen County seat and the largest town in northeastern California, and the numbers above show a lively housing market: 20 percent of residents moved in the past year, median rent is $902 and the median home is worth about $235,500. For Sparks and Reno households, it is a regular destination for moves out and in. ## A town that moves Twenty percent of Susanville residents had moved in the past year, a high rate of churn for a town this size, and about 46 percent of households rent. Median age is 37. That produces many small-to-medium moves: apartments, rented houses and first-home purchases. A median year built of 1975 and a 70 percent single-family share fit that picture. Free-flow time is 106 minutes. This is a Nevada-to-California move, so it is interstate and handled under O'Brien's USDOT and MC authority. Check Caltrans QuickMap for snow, closures and chain controls on the corridor, and leave a margin on winter dates. Moves between Susanville and other California towns, such as Portola, stay inside California and are scheduled under O'Brien's California authority. ## Elevation and weather At 4,362 feet, Susanville is comparable to Reno in elevation, but it sits farther north and gets cold, snowy stretches in the winter months. Summers are hot and dry. [The time of year to move](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/best-time-to-move/) guide explains how to pick a window. ## Long-distance moves out of Susanville If your next home is beyond Northern Nevada, O'Brien's books the move as a Bekins agent and prices it by weight. See [long-distance moving from Susanville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/susanville/long-distance/), and the [packing guide](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/how-to-pack-for-a-move/) if you pack yourself. ## Pick a calendar window Susanville households often move around school terms and lease ends. Booking early for the first and last weeks of a month and for late spring helps, because those dates fill first. A written estimate lists the services you chose, and the office confirms the date by phone. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Lassen County, California](https://www.lassencounty.gov/) - [City of Susanville](https://www.cityofsusanville.gov/) - [Caltrans QuickMap road conditions](https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Susanville, Portola and northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/) - [Long-distance moving from Susanville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/susanville/long-distance/) - [Movers in Portola](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/portola/) - [How an interstate move works with a Bekins agent](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/long-distance-moving/how-interstate-moves-work/) ## Services in Susanville 1 - [### Long-distance moving from Susanville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/susanville/long-distance/) Nearby ## Other towns in this area - [Movers in Portola](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/portola/) - [Movers in Grass Valley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/grass-valley/) - [Movers in Auburn](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/auburn/) - [Movers in Placerville](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/placerville/) - [Movers in Quincy](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/quincy/) - [Movers in Reno](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/reno/) - [Movers in Sparks](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/sparks/) - [Movers in Downtown and Midtown Reno (89501)](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/downtown-midtown-reno/) - [Susanville, Portola and northeastern California](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/northeastern-california/) Moves within California ## Permitted in California O'Brien's Moving & Storage moves households within California under its own authority: Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). August 28, 2024 Extremely happy with the moving experience. The moving team showed up on time, friendly and polite. They did a wonderful job moving our boxes and furniture to the new location. We moved a three bedroom home and I could not be more pleased with the employees who assisted with the move. Highly recommend O'Brien moving for your move. ### Owner's reply Michelle, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We are so happy to hear about the move experience you had with our company and glad to know we met your expectations! It means a lot to us to know that. Thank you for choosing us as your moving partner. S Sonia P. August 4, 2023 Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!! ## Get your free, in-home moving estimate An estimator visits, walks through everything and gives you a written, itemized estimate.
