A move between Truckee and Nevada is an interstate move under federal authority, and O'Brien's reaches town on I-80 from Sparks, about 36 miles. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) ## Truckee by the numbers - Drive from our Sparks warehouse 36 mi, about 48 min via I-80 - Population 17,066 - Households 6,860 - Homes owned / rented 73.4% / 26.6% - Median year built 1989 - Median home value $947,900 - Moved in the past year 10.6% - Elevation 6,655 ft - County Nevada County - ZIP codes 96161 Data (read 2026-10-19): [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html); [OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, free-flow drive from 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks](https://project-osrm.org/); [USGS Elevation Point Query Service](https://apps.nationalmap.gov/epqs/). Truckee is a mountain town on the Donner Pass corridor at 6,655 feet, and its numbers read like a resort community: nearly half of homes are used seasonally, 81 percent are single-family houses, and the median household income is above 130,000 dollars. A Truckee move is shaped by snow, second homes and mountain roads. ## A second-home market With almost half of housing units seasonal, many Truckee moves involve cabins and vacation homes. Those moves often need delivery and placement, packing before closing, and storage between seasons. The [white-glove delivery page](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/white-glove-delivery/) explains placement. Owners make up 73 percent of households, and the median year built is 1989. Mountain homes have decks, steps and steep driveways, so the estimator checks the approach and the carry before the crew arrives. ## I-80 and the state line The route from Sparks is I-80 west, as the fact block shows. Because Truckee is in California, moves between Truckee and Nevada are interstate moves under federal authority. O'Brien's holds U.S. DOT No. 30611 and MC-109375; see [licenses and operating authority](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/). ## What the Truckee numbers mean for a move Truckee's median home value of roughly 948,000 dollars and median rent near 1,960 dollars a month, both Census figures, point to a town where housing is expensive and many people keep their homes for years. Only about 10.6 percent of residents moved in the past year, so households that do move tend to have a full house. The estimator plans the inventory, the packing and the truck count together, and the written estimate lists everything that will ride on the truck. ## Snow is part of the plan At 6,655 feet, Truckee gets heavy winter snow. Chain controls on I-80 can affect a day, and Caltrans posts conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov. Crews carry floor runners and mats. If a storm is forecast, the office calls you to agree on a new start time.
