Truckee is a mountain town of about 17,000 residents at 6,655 feet, 36 miles and about 48 minutes from our Sparks yard on I-80. Two numbers stand out: the 230 residents who arrived from abroad and a seasonal-home share close to half of all housing units. A Truckee move often means a second home or a short stay. ## What 230 arrivals from abroad means The Census counts 230 Truckee residents who lived outside the United States a year earlier, and 286 who moved from other states. Households arriving from abroad often leave again on a defined schedule, a work contract or a school year. O'Brien's also moves households internationally through Bekins and partner international carriers, with an itemized written estimate. Truckee's median home was built in 1989, and about 73 percent of occupied homes are owner occupied. ## California rules for a Truckee move A Truckee move to Nevada or another state is an interstate move under federal authority, carried through the Bekins network. A move from Truckee to another California address is a move within California, and O'Brien's is permitted in California for moves within California. Ask the estimator which applies and what appears on your estimate. ## Winter and I-80 Truckee is the I-80 gateway to Donner Summit, and snow and chain controls shape moving day more here than almost anywhere else we serve. Check Caltrans QuickMap before loading day, and read our guide on [moving at Lake Tahoe in winter](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-at-lake-tahoe-in-winter/). Your written estimate sets the delivery window. ## Second homes and storage With nearly half the housing seasonal, Truckee owners often hold a mountain house that is used a few weeks a year. Those homes carry bedding, skis and furniture that go to a new owner or a different house. Wooden vaults at the Sparks warehouse hold the goods, with vault storage from $40 per month. For a move to Truckee, you book with O'Brien's and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Caltrans QuickMap](https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/) - [FMCSA, Protect Your Move](https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Movers in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/) - [Lake Tahoe and Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/lake-tahoe-and-truckee/) - [Moving at Lake Tahoe and Truckee in winter](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-at-lake-tahoe-in-winter/) - [Seasonal and second-home storage for Tahoe and Truckee owners](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/seasonal-and-second-home-storage/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Long-distance moving from South Lake Tahoe](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/south-lake-tahoe/long-distance/) - [Long-distance moving from Incline Village](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/incline-village/long-distance/) - [Movers in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/) In Truckee ## More services in Truckee - [Packing services in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/packing/) - [Storage for Truckee households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/storage/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/senior-moving/) - [Office and commercial moving in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/office-moving/) - [White-glove furniture delivery in Truckee](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/white-glove-delivery/) Moves within California ## Permitted in California O'Brien's Moving & Storage moves households within California under its own authority: Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's).
