Truckee, in Nevada County, California, has about 17,100 residents and 6,860 households at 6,655 feet. The median home value is about $947,900, and about 73 percent of homes are owned. ## A mountain town with part-time owners With nearly half of its housing seasonal, Truckee mixes year-round residents with owners who visit. A senior leaving a year-round house has a different job than one closing a cabin. The estimator asks which it is, and whether the home will be sold. ## I-80 over the pass The warehouse is about 36 miles from Truckee, roughly 48 minutes on I-80 down the Truckee River canyon. Snow and chain controls can affect a schedule from late fall into spring. See [moving in winter](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-in-winter/) and [mountain passes and winter driving](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/data/mountain-passes/). ## Interstate or within California A move from Truckee to a Nevada address crosses a state line, so it runs under O'Brien's federal interstate authority, U.S. DOT No. 30611 and MC-109375. O'Brien's is permitted in California for moves within California, such as one from Truckee to Sacramento. ## Houses of 1989 A median build of 1989 means houses with decks, multiple levels and attached garages. Garages in mountain towns often hold ski gear, bicycles and tools. Sort these early. ## Where to go from Truckee Many older Truckee residents move to Reno, Sparks, Carson City or the Sacramento area for services and family. Our [Truckee page](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/truckee/) covers general moving, and the Lake Tahoe and Truckee guides add seasonal advice. ## Truckee's year-round residents About 73 percent of homes are owned, and the median age of 42 means a mix of working households and retirees. About 11 percent of residents moved in the past year. The crew is used to the mountain schedule, where the first step is checking road conditions. ## Packing the ski and bike garage A mountain garage often holds skis, snowboards, bikes, boots and camp gear. Sort these first: a lighter garage means a shorter load. Items you plan to keep are boxed or bagged and tagged for the new place. ## Preparing the family home for sale If the house is being sold, the crew can help with de-clutter and home-staging. Furniture not needed for showings can go into a vault. See [de-clutter and home-staging help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/home-staging-and-declutter/). ## Call 775-359-6683, weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm. A move between Nevada and California crosses a state line, so it is an interstate move under our federal authority (U.S. DOT No. 30611, MC-109375) instead.
