Truckee is a town of about 17,000 people in roughly 6,900 households in the Sierra at 6,655 feet, in Nevada County, California. About 73 percent of homes are owner-occupied, 81 percent are single-family houses, and the median build year is 1989. The mix is typical of a mountain town: full-time residents, second-home owners and short-term rentals, all of whom order furniture for the same type of house. ## Where the pieces go in a mountain house Truckee homes are built for snow, with steep roofs, covered entries and sometimes a loft or lower-level family room. The median home has 5.1 rooms, and those rooms are often arranged around a great room. Delivering a sectional into a loft or a bed frame into a lower bedroom means a crew with a plan for stairs, and the estimator draws that plan at the walk-through. ## Snow, ice and the Sierra route The drive from Glendale Ave to Truckee is about 35.7 miles and crosses the Sierra. Winter conditions can change the schedule, and the crew confirms the day by phone before loading. Check the current highway conditions with Caltrans if you are traveling the same day. ## Seasonal ownership shapes the calendar With 47.9 percent of housing units listed as seasonal, Truckee's busiest delivery windows follow the owners' calendar: before ski season, before summer and ahead of rental seasons. Booking early and holding furniture in [vault storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/vault-storage/) from $40 per month in Sparks gives you the freedom to choose the day the truck goes up. Stored goods ship with about 2 to 3 weeks notice. ## Frequent Truckee orders - Sectionals and sleeper sofas for family rooms - Bunk beds and bedroom sets for guest rooms - Dining tables sized for holiday gatherings - Design-led deliveries coordinated with an interior designer ## Garage-level entries and lower floors Many mountain houses enter at a garage or mid-level, with bedrooms above and a family room below. A crew carrying a mattress or a table up or down a flight needs space to turn, which is why the estimator counts landings and the width of each stair. The plan lists the entry the crew will use for each piece. ## Next step A crew leaves Sparks after a [free in-home estimate](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/free-estimate/) that covers stairs, parking and entry. The visit includes 10 free heavy-duty boxes.
