Yerington, the Lyon County seat in Mason Valley, has about 3,150 residents and 1,330 households. About 72 percent of homes are owned. ## Old houses, long stays A 1976 median build means houses with mature fixtures. About 9 percent of residents moved in the past year. The estimator looks closely at attic and basement. ## The long drive from Sparks Yerington is about 74 miles from the Sparks warehouse, roughly 2 hours by US 95A, SR 439 and I-80. The estimate accounts for that. Moves within Nevada run under CPCN 1070. ## A move to the city Some Yerington seniors move to Reno, Sparks or Carson City for services. The crew handles that, and storage is in Sparks. ## Setting priorities Use the [senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) to plan the weeks before. ## Mason Valley and its housing Yerington's median home value is about $284,800, and the median home was built in 1976, so many houses have had decades of additions. Walls, basements and attics hold the most surprises. The Census shows about 72 percent of households owning and 28 percent renting. ## Planning a long-distance local move At roughly 74 miles and two hours from the Sparks yard, a move from Yerington to Reno or Carson City is a full day. The crew arrives early, loads, drives and unloads. The written estimate explains the hours. ## Sorting with a calendar Work backward from the move date. Four weeks out, sort the garage and attic. Two weeks out, pack the rooms you use least. In the last week, pack the kitchen and bedrooms with the crew's help. The [senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) lists each step. ## Keeping in touch with family Many Yerington seniors have family in Reno, Carson City or farther away. Share the written estimate with them. Family can call the office on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm to ask questions. ## A valley of long ties Yerington households have deep roots in Mason Valley, and many have ranch or farm equipment alongside household goods. Household items move with the crew. Equipment is easiest to handle on a separate schedule you arrange. Tell the estimator which items are in each category, so the load is accurate. ## Photographing the house Take photos of each room before the visit and send them to family. They help decide what goes where, and later they help place furniture in the new rooms. ## Call 775-359-6683, weekdays, 8 am to 5 pm. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html) - [Administration for Community Living, Eldercare Locator](https://eldercare.acl.gov/home) - [Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division](https://www.adsd.nv.gov/) - [Nevada Transportation Authority](https://nta.nv.gov/) ### Free in-home estimate - An O'Brien's estimator walks through your home - A written, itemized estimate - 10 free heavy-duty boxes, yours to keep [How our estimates work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/how-our-estimates-work/) ### Visit or call the office 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks, NV 89431 [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) | Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | | --- | --- | | Saturday and Sunday | Closed | [Get my free estimate](#estimate) ### Related - [Senior moves and downsizing help](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/senior-moving/) - [Movers in Yerington](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/yerington/) - [Senior moving checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/senior-moving-checklist/) - [Vault storage: how 7 x 7 x 5 ft wooden vaults work](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/vault-storage/) Nearby ## The same service in nearby towns - [Senior moves and downsizing in Fernley](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/fernley/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Fallon](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/fallon/senior-moving/) - [Senior moves and downsizing in Silver Springs](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/silver-springs/senior-moving/) - [Movers in Yerington](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/yerington/) In Yerington ## More services in Yerington - [Packing services in Yerington](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/yerington/packing/) - [Storage for Yerington households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/yerington/storage/) - [Long-distance moving from Yerington](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/yerington/long-distance/) Answers ## Senior moves and downsizing in Yerington questions Still have a question? February 20, 2026 We were referred to O'Brien's Moving and Storage though a friend in Reno. We couldn't be more pleased with the Professionalism and Service. They were quick to set up Luke to come out and give us a quote and scheduled the actual move date right away. Luke was on time for our quote as were the movers on our moving day. All three of the gentlemen who moved us were professional and courteous from start to finish. From the initial phone call to the completion of our move, we felt like we were treated as family. We would definitely use them again and recommend O'Brien's Moving and Storage to our friends in the future. ### Owner's reply Francie, Thank you for this amazing review.
