Zephyr Cove is the east shore of Lake Tahoe, and the numbers above are unusual even for Tahoe: an elevation above 7,000 feet, a median home value of about $1.75 million and a median age of nearly 66. Those three facts explain most of what a move here looks like. ## Second homes and seasonal use With 53 percent of units listed as seasonal or recreational, many Zephyr Cove homes are not occupied year-round. Moves here include opening a house for the summer, closing it for the winter, and furnishing a second home from a primary one. Our crews pack, load and set up on both ends, and vault storage in Sparks from $40 per month holds seasonal furniture between uses. See [seasonal and second-home storage](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/seasonal-and-second-home-storage/). Tell the estimator when the house will be accessible, who holds the key and whether an HOA or property manager sets move hours. ## High-value homes and fine furnishings A median value near $1.75 million means many homes hold art, antiques, large mirrors and custom furniture. The estimate lists these one by one, and [white-glove furniture delivery](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/areas/zephyr-cove/white-glove-delivery/) places new pieces in the room rather than in the hall. ## US 50 and the winter calendar The 53.2 mile route uses 34 miles of I-580 and 18 miles of US 50 over Spooner Summit, with a free-flow time of 72 minutes. At 7,281 feet Zephyr Cove sees heavy snow, and chain controls on US 50 are common in winter. Follow Nevada 511 and read [moving in winter in the Sierra](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-in-winter/). High elevation also matters for pets and plants; see [moving to high altitude](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-to-high-altitude/). ## Downsizing from a lake home With a median age of 66, many moves here are sales, retirements or a shift to a smaller place.
