O'Brien's treats each senior move as a plan of its own, starting with a free in-home estimate. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) ## Zephyr Cove: Age and time in the home - Median age 65.9 - Householders in their home since before 2020 81% - Homes owned 73.9% - Median year built 1972 Data: [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html). Zephyr Cove is a small Douglas County community on the east shore of Lake Tahoe, at 7,281 feet, with about 560 residents in 284 households. The median home value is about $1.75 million, and the median home was built in 1972. ## The oldest median age At 65.9, Zephyr Cove has the oldest population among the towns covered here, and about 74 percent of homes are owned. A move for an older owner here is usually a decision about the next stage of life: a smaller place, a place nearer to medical care, or a place near children. ## More than half seasonal About 53 percent of housing is seasonal, so many owners hold a Tahoe home alongside another. A senior closing the lake house may be emptying a place that was furnished for summers and for guests. Photograph rooms and list items to keep before the visit. ## Houses of 1972 A median build of 1972 means houses of earlier plans and older materials. Stairs and narrow halls are common, and some steep driveways have turned retaining walls. The estimator checks the access, and the crew uses pads and runners to protect floors. ## High elevation, long drive The Sparks warehouse is about 53 miles and 72 minutes away via US 50 and I-580. At more than 7,000 feet, winter changes the plan. See [moving at Lake Tahoe in winter](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-at-lake-tahoe-in-winter/). ## Heirlooms Lake houses collect heirlooms: oars, paintings, quilts, old photographs. Keep small and sentimental items with you. Furniture and art ride on the truck with padding, and crating is available. See [custom crating](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/packing/custom-crating/). ## Walking the lot Lake properties can have long stairs from the road to the house, detached garages and docks. The crew's job is the house. Ask the estimator about any outbuildings so the load plan includes them or leaves them out on purpose. ## Where seniors from the east shore go Many older Zephyr Cove owners move to the Carson Valley, Carson City or Reno, where services are closer. A move to any Nevada address stays within the state and runs under CPCN 1070. ## Family and caregivers Adult children often coordinate a Zephyr Cove move from another city. They can read the written estimate, call the office on weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm, and ask the estimator to explain the inventory before the crew packs. ## The first step Call 775-359-6683, weekdays, 8 am to 5 pm.
