# What is debris removal in a move?

Debris removal is the hauling away of packing paper, cartons, wrap and crating after goods are delivered and unpacked or after furniture is installed. O'Brien's lists it among the services it provides for interior designers, alongside warehousing, logistics and installation.

A full house move produces a pile. Cartons flatten into stacks, wrapping paper fills bags, and crates from a fine-art delivery take up a corner of the garage. Debris removal is the part of the job that takes that pile away, and whether it is included is worth asking before moving day.

## What counts as debris

The pads and blankets that belong to the crew go back on the truck. What is left is yours, unless the estimate says the mover takes it.

- Cartons and wardrobe boxes after unpacking
- Packing paper, bubble wrap and foam
- Pads, banding and blanket wrap from furniture protection
- Crates and skids from specialty or installed pieces
- Protective film and stretch wrap

## How it relates to unpacking

FMCSA lists unpacking among the accessorial services, with packing and appliance servicing. Unpacking and debris removal go together in practice: the crew opens cartons, places contents where you point, and then clears the paper. Because the federal rules at 375.401(f) and 375.505(b)(14) put accessorial services on the estimate and on the bill of lading, ask whether your estimate lists unpacking, debris removal or both, and as one line or two.

## Interior designers and installations

Design projects involve many deliveries to one site: furniture, lighting, rugs, art. Each arrives in protective packaging, and a finished room cannot be photographed with boxes behind the sofa. O'Brien's partners with interior designers to provide warehousing, logistics, installation and debris removal, so the receiving, placement and cleanup of a design project can be handled together. See [the logistics partner for interior designers](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/commercial-moving/interior-designers/) and [white-glove delivery](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/commercial-moving/white-glove-delivery/).

## What to arrange for a household move

If you want the cartons taken away after a move, say so at the free in-home estimate, then confirm that it appears on the written estimate. If you plan to keep boxes for a later move, say that too. Cartons in good shape can be stacked in the garage, and the crew can break down what you do not want. Your local trash and recycling service sets the rules for cardboard in the city or county where you live.

## Plan the last hour

The best time to decide about debris is before the truck arrives. Decide where the crew should stack paper, whether bulky crates go with them, and where the recycling bin sits. Call 775-359-6683 with questions.

Extremely happy with the moving experience. The moving team showed up on time, friendly and polite. They did a wonderful job moving our boxes and furniture to the new location. We moved a three bedroom home and I could not be more pleased with the employees who assisted with the move. Highly recommend O'Brien moving for your move.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
