New York City addresses may need extra documents, so check the DMV page for your county. ## The income tax and the sales tax New York's personal income tax reaches 10.3 percent on income between five million and 25 million dollars, and 10.9 percent on income over 25 million dollars. Most households fall in much lower brackets. The state sales tax is 4 percent, and counties and cities add their own, so the rate at the register is higher. In the New York City area, a regional transportation tax adds 0.375 percent. Nevada has no state personal income tax.
