Median household income in the city is $108,077. Across the wider San Diego-Chula Vista-Carlsbad metro the medians are $2,246 for rent and $854,700 for home value. Those numbers explain why many Reno households downsize on the way to San Diego. A smaller floor plan means fewer rooms to fill, and the in-home estimate is a good moment to decide what ships and what goes into storage. Annual rainfall is about 11 inches, and the normals record no measurable snow. For packing that means the winter coats can go to the back of the closet. Pack heavy winter bedding in a labeled carton so it is easy to find if you visit Tahoe. ## California DMV deadlines and tax California DMV gives new residents 20 days to register a vehicle brought from another state and 10 days to obtain a California driver license. The Franchise Tax Board's 2025 rate schedule lists a top income tax rate of 12.3 percent, and the base statewide sales and use tax rate is 7.25 percent with district taxes added by locality. Nevada residents pay no state tax on wages, so a San Diego paycheck is the first place the change appears.
