Service members book a government-arranged move through the installation transportation office and the Defense Personal Property System (DPS); Military OneSource explains the steps. or call [775-359-6683](tel:+17753596683) [4.3 on Google · 71 reviews](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/reviews/) Family owned since 1941 [U.S. DOT No. 30611](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/about/licenses-and-authority/) A permanent change of station is a different kind of move. The government arranges it, orders set the dates, and the paperwork is its own system. O'Brien's has been approved by the Department of Defense to move and store military household goods, and one of only a few companies in the Reno and Sparks area to provide both services for service members. ## At a glance - DOD approved to move and store military household goods - Booking is through the installation transportation office - Storage in a 30,000 sq ft Sparks warehouse - Nearby bases include NAS Fallon ## How a military move is booked A service member with orders starts at the installation transportation office or Personal Property Processing Office. The office opens a shipment in the Defense Personal Property System, known as DPS; Military OneSource explains the steps. The Department of Defense assigns the shipment to an approved carrier, and Military OneSource explains each step. The government assigns the carrier for a government-arranged move, so use the sources below for the current process. ## Personally procured moves A personally procured move, or PPM, is one where the service member arranges part or all of the move. A PPM needs orders, and the Joint Travel Regulations set the rules for it. If you are doing a PPM and need help loading, unloading or packing, an estimator can price that help. Storage can also be part of a military household plan, and we explain it on the page for [storage for military households](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/full-service-storage/military-storage/). Whichever route you take, keep copies of your orders, your inventory and your bill of lading. The guide on [the moving inventory](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/moving-inventory/) explains why the inventory is the document you check against at delivery. ## Bases and communities we serve Service members in Northern Nevada often ask about [NAS Fallon](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/military-moving/nas-fallon/), and that page gathers base-specific information from official sources. Our office in Sparks is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. ## Storage for service members Orders sometimes change, a deployment starts, or a home is not ready. Wooden vaults in the Sparks warehouse hold household goods short or long term. About 2 to 3 weeks notice is needed to ship stored goods, and vault storage starts from $40 per month. ### Sources (checked October 18, 2026) - [Military OneSource, Moving Personal Property](https://www.militaryonesource.mil/moving-pcs/moving-personal-property/) - [Military OneSource, Moving and Housing](https://www.militaryonesource.mil/moving-housing/moving/) - [Defense Travel Management Office, Joint Travel Regulations](https://www.travel.dod.mil/Policy-Regulations/Joint-Travel-Regulations/) ### Licensed movers U.S. DOT No. 30611 MC-109375 Nevada CPCN 1070 Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's) Bekins Van Lines interstate agent since 1955 [Check our USDOT record](https://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/query.asp?searchtype=ANY&query_type=queryCarrierSnapshot&query_param=USDOT&query_string=30611) · [Ready to Move?
