This checklist puts the Nevada statutes and the Washoe County service providers in the order you will need them. ## Week 1: the essentials Set up electric and gas service before you arrive. NV Energy serves most of Northern Nevada, and TMWA supplies water to Reno, Sparks and Washoe County customers; the [utilities guide](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/utilities/) lists the rest. Update your address with the post office, your bank and your insurers, using our [change-of-address checklist](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/guides/change-of-address-checklist/). Find your zoned school if you have children. The Washoe County School District publishes a lookup tool for attendance areas, and our [schools guide](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/schools/) lists what enrollment asks for. ## Within 30 days: license and registration NRS 483.245 requires a new resident to obtain a Nevada driver license within 30 days. NRS 482.385 requires a vehicle to be registered within 30 days of becoming a resident, or when you get a Nevada license, whichever comes first. The Nevada DMV also requires Nevada insurance, and vehicles in urban Washoe County need an emissions test, with newer vehicles exempt for their first model years. Active-duty military members and their dependents are not required to transfer their licenses. Homeowners should look at the [homestead exemption](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/homestead-exemption/) and the [property tax page](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/property-taxes/). ## Pets, trash and everyday services Dogs in Washoe County need a license from Regional Animal Services and a current rabies certificate; see [moving pets to Washoe County](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/moving-with-pets-to-washoe-county/). Waste Management is the franchise garbage hauler for Reno and Sparks; see [trash and recycling](https://obriensmoving-storage.com/moving-to-reno/trash-and-recycling/). August 28, 2024 Extremely happy with the moving experience. The moving team showed up on time, friendly and polite. They did a wonderful job moving our boxes and furniture to the new location. We moved a three bedroom home and I could not be more pleased with the employees who assisted with the move. Highly recommend O'Brien moving for your move. ### Owner's reply Michelle, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We are so happy to hear about the move experience you had with our company and glad to know we met your expectations! It means a lot to us to know that. Thank you for choosing us as your moving partner. S Sonia P. August 4, 2023 Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!! J Jennifer C. August 3, 2023 Customer service, packers, and loaders were very responsive, professional, and did an overall great job. ## Get a long-distance estimate Tell us where you are going.
