Only about 6 percent of Johnson Lane households rent, one of the lowest renter shares of any Carson Valley place we cover, so storage here follows the needs of owners with large homes and plenty to keep. O'Brien's wooden vaults in Sparks start at $40 per month.
Johnson Lane is a hillside community of about 6,500 people in roughly 2,600 households on the east side of the Carson Valley, up at about 5,895 feet. Nearly everyone owns the home they live in, and homes here often sit on acreage with room for sheds and outbuildings.

Acreage and outbuildings
A household with a barn, a shop or a large garage can hold a lot of belongings over the years. When it is time to move, that accumulation arrives all at once.
The estimator walks the whole property, house and outbuildings, so the plan for packing and loading covers every item that is going.
Owners decide on their own schedule
With about 6 percent renting and only about 8.6 percent of residents moving in the past year, Johnson Lane customers rarely face a hard lease deadline. They choose when to store, and often choose to do it before listing a home so it shows well.
Furniture goes into wooden vaults, and the house is staged with fewer pieces.
Elevation and winter access
At about 5,895 feet, Johnson Lane sits well above the valley floor, and the drive from the warehouse takes about 71 minutes for 44.8 miles, longer than the distance would suggest. Winter can slow that drive further.
Pick a packing day with a flexible alternate. The National Weather Service Reno office and NV Roads show forecasts and road conditions.
Vault details
Each wooden vault measures 7 ft x 7 ft x 5 ft. Vault storage starts at $40 per month. Stored goods ship with about 2 to 3 weeks notice.
The crew handles packing, wrapping and loading, and a forklift moves the vaults in the warehouse.
Homes on acreage often have rooms nobody has opened in a while. Walk through each one before the estimate and mark what is going, what is staying and what is undecided. The undecided pile can go into a vault and wait.
A good rule is to finish the sorting before packing day, so the crew can work through the house in order rather than stopping to ask.
We were referred to O'Brien's Moving and Storage though a friend in Reno. We couldn't be more pleased with the Professionalism and Service. They were quick to set up Luke to come out and give us a quote and scheduled the actual move date right away. Luke was on time for our quote as were the movers on our moving day. All three of the gentlemen who moved us were professional and courteous from start to finish. From the initial phone call to the completion of our move, we felt like we were treated as family. We would definitely use them again and recommend O'Brien's Moving and Storage to our friends in the future.

3 O'Brien movers came down from Reno to South Lake Tahoe to assist our company moving a lot of big furniture out of a large warehouse. They showed up on-time, were friendly, and were professional and got the job done quickly and diligently. Will definitely use them again.
