How to use the route lookup

1. Start typing a place. Use the city or town name; suggestions appear as you type.
2. Press Look it up. The result shows driving miles and drive time.
3. Read the main roads. The highways that carry most of the trip are listed.
4. Open the route page. Where a route page exists, a link takes you to it.
5. Ask for your estimate. Call 775-359-6683 or use the form to price the move.

Distance shapes a move in two ways: how long the truck is on the road, and how the move is scheduled and priced. The route lookup gives you the first answer in one step. Start typing the name of a place, pick it from the list, and the miles and drive time between that place and the Sparks warehouse appear.

Where the numbers come from

Distances and drive times come from OpenStreetMap routing data, calculated as free-flow driving from the O'Brien's warehouse in Sparks. Free-flow means the trip with no traffic delays, no chain controls and no stops. Real trips take longer, especially over the Sierra in winter.

Reading the main roads

The roads listed are the highways a truck would use for most of the miles. Interstate 80 carries traffic to and from Sacramento and the Bay Area, U.S. 395 links Carson City and the south, and U.S. 50 serves Fallon and the central valleys. Mountain passes on these roads can close for snow. Check conditions with the page on winter driving and chain controls and with NDOT and Caltrans before a winter move.

Local, regional and long distance

Within Reno, Sparks and Carson City a move is a local one, and the lookup shows a short trip. Within Nevada, it shows rural miles. A move between Nevada and another state is an interstate move. What the lookup cannot tell you

It cannot tell you when your belongings arrive. A long-distance delivery window comes from your written estimate. It cannot tell you what the move costs either. Long-distance moves are priced by weight, and the weight comes from the in-home survey.
