April is when moving in the Truckee Meadows becomes comfortable. Frost is down to about a week of mornings, the airport records just 0.4 inches of snow, and the sun is up before 6:30 am by mid-month. The mountains lag behind, though, and Truckee still averages 18.5 inches of April snow.

The weather you can plan around
With 0.44 inches of precipitation across 4.5 days, April is among the drier spring months. Highs near 65 F are cool enough to carry a sofa without overheating, and lows near 38 F mean the early hours are chilly rather than icy.
The usual spring wind arrives in the afternoon, so tape down paper wrapping and close trailer doors when furniture is left in the open for a moment.
Thirteen hours of light
On April 15 the warehouse sunrise is about 6:23 am and the sunset about 7:35 pm. That is 13.2 hours of daylight, which is plenty for a loading day and an unloading day on the same schedule. It also leaves time for you to check the new home with the lights on before the crew leaves.
If a closing is late in the day, the long evenings help you collect keys and walk the house in daylight.
Why April fills up
- Real estate listings pick up as the weather turns, so closings cluster in late spring.
- Families with children often want to move before the end of the school year; Washoe County School District's last day for balanced-calendar students is June 4, 2027.
- Many leases end on April 30.
- Book early and ask about weekday dates, which are easier to staff than Saturdays.
- Ask for the 10 free heavy-duty boxes with the in-home estimate and start packing six weeks ahead; see the moving timeline.
April in the Sierra
Truckee averages a 54.8 F high and 25.2 F low in April, with 18.5 inches of snow and 26.9 mornings at or below freezing. A move into a Tahoe or Truckee home may still involve snow banks and a short, slippery driveway. Check Caltrans for chain controls and Nevada 511 for Nevada highways.
