South Carolina changed its income tax this year, so older articles about the state are out of date. The figures below are from the 2026 law and the state's own agencies.
Forty-five days to license and register
Title 56 of the South Carolina Code gives the owner of a vehicle moved in from a state where it is properly licensed and registered forty-five days to license and register it in South Carolina. The Department of Motor Vehicles says you must apply for a South Carolina license or ID within 45 days of moving to the state.
That is a longer window than Pennsylvania's or Ohio's, but it still passes quickly once boxes are being unpacked. Military members and dependents have a longer license window of 90 days.
A new income tax schedule
Nevada collects no state personal income tax. South Carolina's Act 110 of 2026, signed March 30, 2026, sets a 1.99 percent rate on taxable income below $30,000 and 5.21 percent less $966 on taxable income of $30,000 or more, so the top rate for 2026 is 5.21 percent, down from 6 percent in 2025. Further cuts depend on revenue growth beginning in 2027.
The statewide sales and use tax is 6 percent, and counties may add up to 1 percent with voter approval.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
