Vermont is one of the higher-income-tax states on this page, and it adds a vehicle inspection step after registration. The facts below come from the state's own agencies.

The Vermont DMV says a resident who has moved to Vermont from another jurisdiction must register motor vehicles within 60 days of moving, and a new resident must obtain a Vermont license within 60 days of establishing residency. After registering, a vehicle must also be inspected within 15 days.
Plan the inspection before you head to the DMV, because the 15 days run from registration, not from the move. Choose an inspection station near your new town and bring the registration. A car that fails a check needs repair time, so do not leave the inspection to the last day of the 15.
Nevada collects no state personal income tax. Vermont's 2025 rate schedules, the latest the Department of Taxes has published, run 3.35, 6.60, 7.60 and 8.75 percent for a single filer, with the top bracket starting above $276,850. A household earning less than that sits in the lower brackets.
Vermont's sales and use tax is 6 percent, and some municipalities add a 1 percent local option tax. Nevada's statewide minimum is 6.85 percent.
You book with O'Brien's. An estimator sees your belongings at your Sparks, Reno or Tahoe-area home, writes an itemized written estimate, and the Bekins network carries the shipment to Vermont. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. Rural Vermont roads and dirt lanes can be narrow, so tell the estimator how the new driveway looks, how many steps lead to the door and whether a large truck can park close. Those answers go into the plan before the crew ever arrives, which keeps moving day calm.

Wooden vault storage in our Sparks warehouse runs from $40 per month, and about 2 to 3 weeks notice ships it. Read seasonal and second-home storage if Vermont is a second home first. The free in-home estimate comes with 10 free heavy-duty boxes.
