West Virginia gives new residents 30 days to title and register a vehicle and 30 days to get a West Virginia license, with a top income tax rate of 4.58 percent for 2026 and a 6 percent sales tax. O'Brien's books your move from Sparks and the Bekins network carries it to West Virginia.
West Virginia cut its income tax by 5 percent across the board in 2026, so older rate tables run high. The numbers below follow the DMV and the State Tax Department.

Thirty days to title, register and license
The West Virginia DMV says new residents must have their vehicles titled and registered within thirty days of establishing residency, and that new residents who want to drive in West Virginia must apply for a West Virginia driver's license within 30 days. West Virginia Code 17B-2-1a uses the same window: within thirty days after taking up residence.
The state charges a 6 percent titling tax, but a new resident whose vehicle is already titled in their own name elsewhere is exempt. Bring the Nevada title to show that.
The 2026 income tax cut
Nevada collects no state personal income tax. Senate Bill 392, signed March 31, 2026, cut West Virginia's personal income tax 5 percent across the board, retroactive to January 1, 2026. The top bracket, income over $60,000, pays $1,950.50 plus 4.58 percent of the excess, down from a 2025 top rate of 4.82 percent. The lowest bracket is 2.11 percent.
The state sales tax is 6 percent, and municipalities may add up to 1 percent, for a maximum of 7 percent.
The move across the mountains
You book with O'Brien's. An estimator writes an itemized written estimate at your home, and the Bekins network carries the shipment to West Virginia. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. Hill-country driveways can be steep and narrow, so describe the new home to the estimator.

Storage and boxes
Wooden vault storage in our Sparks warehouse starts from $40 per month if your West Virginia home is not ready, and about 2 to 3 weeks notice ships it. The estimator brings 10 free heavy-duty boxes. Read about storage while you sell your home.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
