San Antonio's median home value is $235,700 in the American Community Survey, less than half of the $502,300 Reno metro median, and Texas gives new residents 30 days to register a vehicle. The city is about 1,698 miles from our Sparks warehouse.
San Antonio sits 722 feet above sea level. Census flows show about 140 people a year coming from the San Antonio area to Washoe County and about 179 going the other way. The sections below cover what the Texas end asks of you.
The price gap is the headline
The city shows a median home value of $235,700, median gross rent of $1,324 and a median household income of $65,056. The San Antonio-New Braunfels metro lists medians of $278,800, $1,363 and $76,213. Reno's metro medians are $502,300, $1,592 and $87,485.
Households selling in Reno often find a larger house in San Antonio is possible. About 47.8 percent of city households rent. Medians describe areas, not specific homes.

Texas deadlines and taxes
TxDMV says new residents have 30 days from the time they move to register their vehicle. The Department of Public Safety requires a Texas driver license within 90 days. Book the vehicle visit first, since it has the shorter clock.
Texas has no personal income tax, and the state sales and use tax rate is 6.25 percent. Local jurisdictions may add up to 2 percentage points, for a combined maximum of 8.25 percent. Nevada has no individual income tax either, so a tax professional will mostly be sorting out property and sales taxes.
Heat and a long cooling season
NOAA's San Antonio airport normals show a July high of 94.9 degrees and a low of 74.7, a January high of 63.3 and a low of 41.0, and 32.38 inches of precipitation a year. Reno's July low is 60.4 and its precipitation is 7.35 inches. Snow is close to zero.

How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

We were referred to O'Brien's Moving and Storage though a friend in Reno. We couldn't be more pleased with the Professionalism and Service. They were quick to set up Luke to come out and give us a quote and scheduled the actual move date right away. Luke was on time for our quote as were the movers on our moving day. All three of the gentlemen who moved us were professional and courteous from start to finish. From the initial phone call to the completion of our move, we felt like we were treated as family. We would definitely use them again and recommend O'Brien's Moving and Storage to our friends in the future.

Both movers were courteous, efficient and very carful with my furniture. Also, talking with Janet over the phone was a pleasure.
