Sparks sits at 4,539 feet right beside Reno, and its three ZIP codes are 89431, 89434 and 89436. Most newcomers find that the paperwork is simple once they know which agency handles which job. This guide lists the offices in the order you will probably need them.

Utilities: who to call before the truck arrives
Start with water and power, because both need a start date. Water for Reno and Sparks comes from the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, which describes itself as a community-owned utility serving more than 475,000 residents of Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. NV Energy handles electric service and natural gas in the area, and its site has a start, stop or transfer page.
Sewer, garbage and internet depend on the street address, so ask your landlord or the seller which companies serve the house. The Reno and Sparks utilities guide walks through the full list and the order to call.
Schools: the Washoe County School District
Every public school in Sparks belongs to the Washoe County School District, whose central office is at 425 East Ninth Street in Reno. Attendance zones follow your home address, so confirm the address first and then enroll through the district. The district calendar also shows closures such as Nevada Day, which falls on Friday, October 30 this year.
Bring proof of address and the child's records. The Washoe County schools guide covers the paperwork in more detail.
County offices that matter to a new Sparks homeowner
Washoe County runs the Assessor, Recorder, Treasurer and Registrar of Voters, and their pages are all on washoecounty.gov. The Assessor sets the value of your parcel, the Treasurer collects the tax bill, and the Recorder holds deeds. The Registrar of Voters handles registration, and the county is running early voting through October 30 for the general election.
Property tax questions are common in the first year; the property tax guide explains the abatement cap.

DMV and vehicle registration
The state-run DMV office for the Reno and Sparks area is the Reno office at 9155 Double Diamond Parkway, open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 4 pm. Appointments are required for most services, so book first. Many vehicle transactions can also be done online.
AAA in Sparks, at 1360 Scheels Drive, Suite 120, is listed by the DMV as a location for vehicle registration and plate services. For a license, the state's new-resident guide lists the documents: proof of identity, Social Security number, two proofs of Nevada address and your existing license. See getting a Nevada driver's license and registering your car.
Planning the move day itself
Sparks is the town where the O'Brien's warehouse, truck yard and office share a site, at 2277 Glendale Ave. Census figures put about 30.6 percent of Sparks householders as having moved in during 2020 or later, so a new neighbor on your street is common. Once the date is set, a free in-home estimate lets an estimator see the house and the garage, and it comes with 10 free heavy-duty boxes to keep.
