Moving from Reno to Virginia Beach

The American Community Survey lists median household income of $92,968 for the city of Virginia Beach, median gross rent of $1,714 and a median home value of $382,500. The Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk metro, which crosses into North Carolina, shows $340,900 for a home and $1,478 for rent. In the Reno metro the medians are $502,300 and $1,592.

Only 34.9 percent of Virginia Beach households rent, so the city skews toward owners. Medians describe an area, not a listing.

Mild winters and a wet year

NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for the Oceana station list a January high of 50.3 degrees with a low of 31.6, and a July high of 87.4 with a low of 70.3. Annual precipitation is 46.62 inches and snow averages 3.4 inches. Reno's January high is 47.7, and its air is dry in July.

Virginia's titling and license deadlines

Virginia DMV says you must title your vehicle within 30 days of moving to Virginia and register it at a DMV customer service center within the same 30 days. A driver's license is due within 60 days.

Virginia taxes income on a graduated schedule, with a top rate of 5.75 percent on taxable income over $17,000 in the 2025 table. The retail sales and use tax is a combined 5.3 percent statewide, made up of 4.3 percent state tax and 1 percent local, and some regions add more. Nevada has no individual income tax, so the move year needs a tax professional.
