Delaware's 60 days, and why they do not carry over

The Delaware DMV tells new residents to title and register vehicles and apply for a license within 60 days of becoming a Delaware resident. That period is how long people arriving in Delaware have. Nevada gives people arriving 30 days, so the Delaware number is no help once you cross the border.

Leaving Delaware, close out the vehicle side by keeping your Delaware title for the Nevada DMV and cancelling the Delaware tag only after Nevada plates are in hand if your insurer asks for that.

Taxes: no sales tax, an income tax, and then the reverse

Delaware's top personal income tax rate is 6.6 percent on taxable income above $60,000, a rate in place since tax year 2014. The state has no sales tax. Nevada reverses both: no state personal income tax, and a sales tax that in Washoe County is paid at the register.
