O'Brien's, family owned since 1941, moves pianos and organs for Reno and Sparks families, with a free in-home estimate that lists exactly what is being moved. Call 775-359-6683 to book the visit.
A piano is the heaviest, most awkward and most sentimental thing in most homes. It is also a precision instrument, with thousands of parts that react to bumps and temperature swings. Moving one is a job for a trained crew with the right equipment, not a favor from friends with a pickup.

What a customer said
A Reno family wrote: “We have a big, beautiful, antique piano and wanted to move it to a new location.” After the move they added that the crew “moved our old piano with the utmost care and respect.” (Missy N., Google, 2024) The estimator had told them how many movers the job would need before the day arrived, which settled their nerves.
What the estimator looks at
The size and type of the instrument matter, but the path matters just as much. The estimator checks the doorway widths, the turns in the hall, the number of stairs and the surface at the other end. A grand piano is usually taken apart in a small way for the trip and set up on its legs in the new room. Uprights and consoles travel padded and strapped on a dolly.
Tell the estimator the make, size and age of the piano, and mention any stairs at either address. If the instrument is an organ, say so, because home organs vary a great deal from model to model.
Tuning and other care
A piano that has been moved should settle in its new room before it is tuned. Piano technicians usually advise waiting a few weeks, so schedule the tuner after the move, not on moving day. Keep the instrument away from vents, direct sun and exterior doors in the new room.

Piano only, or a full move
Some customers call only for the piano. Others add it to a local move or a long-distance move, and the estimate lists it as its own line. Pianos and organs are part of the larger specialty moving family along with pool tables and fine art and antiques. Storage between homes is available in the Sparks warehouse.
The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
