Senior moves and downsizing in West Carson City

West Carson City, ZIP 89703, climbs into the foothills on the way to the Sierra. The Census counts about 10,700 residents and 4,800 households, with a median age near 52.8 and a median home value of about $626,500, a figure that often shapes how much a family wants to keep.

An older owner base

More than seven in ten homes are owned, and only about 9 percent of residents moved in the past year. Low turnover means many of these households have been in place a long time. The median home was built in 1980, which tells the crew to expect full basements, sheds and storage rooms.

A long stay in one house usually means a lot of paper, tools and keepsakes. The estimator sets aside time to look at each of these spaces.

Foothill streets and loading

West Carson City stretches from the valley floor up toward the hills at about 4,878 feet. Streets can be steep, narrow or curved, and a truck needs a clear place to park. The estimator looks at the street, the driveway and the front door during the visit and plans the truck size around them. The city is about 31 miles and 43 minutes from the Sparks warehouse on I-580 and US 395 Business.

Selling the house after the move

Many West Carson City owners sell the house after they leave it. The crew can pack and move the furniture and leave rooms ready for photographs, and the de-clutter and home-staging help is available for homes going on the market. Items you are unsure about can sit in a wooden vault while the listing goes forward.

Estate and downsizing storage

If the move follows a loss in the family, a relaxed pace matters. Vault storage from $40 per month lets a family decide in stages instead of in a weekend. Read about estate and downsizing storage and estate moves.

Booking the first visit

Ask for a weekday morning when everyone who needs to see the house can be there. The estimate is free and includes 10 free heavy-duty boxes, which you can start filling the day it is delivered.
