Data (read 2026-10-19): OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, free-flow drive from 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks; U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates; NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020; U.S. Census Bureau, State-to-State Migration Flows (ACS 1-year 2024); U.S. Census Bureau, ACS county-to-county migration flows 2016-2020.
Anchorage sits at about 61 degrees north, and Reno is more than 1,900 miles away in a straight line. Census estimates put roughly 86 people a year moving from the Anchorage area into Washoe County (2016-2020), a small but steady flow of households trading a subarctic winter for the Truckee Meadows.
Driving from Anchorage to Reno is a trip of about 2,971 miles, and the road leaves the United States. The route follows Yukon Route 1 for about 646 miles, British Columbia Route 37 for about 450 miles, then I-5 for about 374 miles and Alaska Route 1 for about 304 miles, with the rest on connecting roads. That is why a move from Anchorage is a different kind of trip from a move from Sacramento or Boise: the highway distance is far longer than the straight-line distance of about 1,949 miles.
At 64 h 36 min of driving, a normal 500-mile day makes six driving days before any rest, weather or loading time. That is a planning figure for a car, not a delivery promise for your household goods. Your written estimate sets the delivery window, and it is built for the whole shipment, not for the road alone.
The route data lists no named mountain passes on the way, but a long northern drive is still seasonal. Winter daylight is short, and the Canadian leg runs through remote country where services are far apart. If you are driving your own car down while the shipment travels separately, check Alaska 511 and the provincial road reports before you leave, and carry the documents the border crossing asks for. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency publish what travelers need.
Fuel and lodging stops are spaced widely on the Canadian stretch, so plan each day's end before you start. Many families split the drive over seven or eight shorter days with children or pets aboard. The shipment itself does not wait on your driving schedule.

The climate is the first thing you notice. Anchorage averages a January high near 22.6 degrees and a low near 8.2, with July highs near 68.4 and about 14.2 inches of precipitation a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals, Merrill Field). Reno swings more between day and night, and the summers are far hotter and drier. Winter coats and boots still matter in the Truckee Meadows, but a Reno snowfall is measured in days, not months.
The cost table the page shows compares both ends with Census numbers. Anchorage municipality reports a median household income of $103,284 and a median gross rent of $1,489. Use those figures as a starting point for your own budget; a rent or purchase comparison is easier when you see both columns side by side.
Nevada has no state income tax on wages, and Alaska has none either, so that part of the budget carries over. New residents have a short window to get a Nevada driver license and register vehicles, and many cars in Washoe County need an emissions test. Our moving to Reno guide covers the DMV steps, utilities and schools.

Winter on the northern route means short days and remote services, so many people drive in the warmer months. Check Alaska 511 and the provincial road reports before you leave.
Yes. Vault storage in the Sparks warehouse is available short or long term, with about two to three weeks notice to ship stored goods.

The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!
Laurie, Thank you for the awesome review! We are glad to hear everything went smoothly, and you were satisfied with the service. We want to also thank you for your business we appreciate you!
