Moving from Bishop and the Owens Valley to Reno
Bishop to Reno is about 203 miles, roughly four and a quarter hours of free-flow driving, and 166 miles run on US 395 across Conway Summit at about 8,140 feet. Bishop sits at 4,147 feet.
Bishop is a city of about 3,800 people in the Owens Valley, with a median household income of $83,686 and a median age of 51.2. Inyo County has about 18,700 residents in total. Moving from Bishop to Reno is a trip between two high-desert places, with the Sierra rising on one side the whole way.

The drive: US 395 all the way
The route data counts 166 miles on US 395 and 34 on I-580. There is very little else: a single highway, with Conway Summit at about 8,140 feet as the pass, between Bishop and the Carson Valley. The road follows the east side of the Sierra.
Travel services can be spread out on long stretches, so crews plan fuel and rest stops ahead of time. In winter, closures can happen on US 395 near the summit. The Nevada side is covered by NDOT, and the California side by Caltrans QuickMap.
This drive is a good example of why the delivery window comes from the written estimate. The miles are not many, but weather can change them. The estimator builds that in.
Bishop starts at 4,147 feet, so the climb to Conway Summit is about 3,800 feet, much less than from a coastal origin, and the descent to Reno is gentle.
What the miles mean for a move
At 203 miles, the trip is a one-day drive. Weight-based pricing applies, based on the inventory and condition report done before packing.
Owens Valley households often have workshops, outdoor gear, and vehicles. Auto transport with a move is part of O'Brien's service list, and the estimator can describe how it fits.
Cost and climate at both ends
Bishop city's median home value is $386,400 and its median gross rent is $1,580. Reno city's Census median home value and median gross rent are $548,300 and $1,556. The Bishop station records a January high of 56.3 and low of 23.5, a July high of 99.7 and only 4.84 inches of precipitation a year. Reno has about 7 inches and around 21 inches of snow.
Census flow estimates between Inyo County and Washoe County are small, and their margin of error is larger than the estimate itself. The correct reading is that people move both ways.
