Data (read 2026-10-19): OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, free-flow drive from 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks; U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates; NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020; U.S. Census Bureau, State-to-State Migration Flows (ACS 1-year 2024); U.S. Census Bureau, ACS county-to-county migration flows 2016-2020.

The Tri-Cities sit at 556 feet in the Columbia Basin, one of the driest places in the Northwest. Its 7.62 inches of annual precipitation is almost the same as Reno's 7.35, so the climate you leave and the climate you reach are close cousins, even though the Sparks warehouse is at 4,437 feet.

US 95, I-84 and I-80

The printed route runs US 95 for about 251 miles, I-84 for 191 miles, I-80 for 162 miles and I-82 for 20 miles. Only 20 of the miles are on I-82, and the longest single stretch is US 95. The map line is about 462 miles, so the roads add roughly 180.

US 95 crosses sparsely settled country with long gaps between fuel stops. Check Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Nevada road-condition sites before a winter departure; NDOT covers the Nevada end.

Two days, a short haul

The 11 h 42 min of wheel time is a two-day trip at 500 miles a day. A shipment moves through the carrier network on its own schedule, so the delivery window in your written estimate is the date to plan around, even on a route this short.

Kennewick's January high is 41.4 degrees and low 27.8; its July high is 92.5. Reno's January high is 47.7 and July high is 93.9. The temperatures are close, so furniture and plants that do well in the Tri-Cities usually adjust easily.

How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent

O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.
