Albuquerque lies in the Rio Grande valley at 4,963 feet with the Sandia Mountains to the east. New Mexico's rules for new residents
The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division's manual lets a nonresident use a vehicle for 180 days without registering it if it carries current plates from the owner's home state, and presumes anyone gainfully employed in the state for 30 days or more within 60 to be a resident. The MVD says that once you establish residency you must surrender your license from any other state and apply for a New Mexico license. No official page gives a fixed day count, so ask the MVD before you set a date.
New Mexico levies a gross receipts tax rather than a sales tax, and the state portion is 4.875 percent; local rates are added on top. The personal income tax tops out at 5.9 percent under current law. Nevada has no individual income tax, so ask a tax professional about the move year.
Sunny, dry, and four seasons
At the Albuquerque airport station NOAA lists a January high of 48.4 degrees and a low of 26.4, and a July high of 91.2 with a low of 66.5. Annual precipitation is 8.84 inches and snow is 7.9 inches, compared with 7.35 and 20.9 in Reno. Summer nights are warmer than Reno's 60.4, and winter highs are about the same as Reno's 47.7.
The dry air is close to Reno's, so furniture and instruments do not face a humidity shock. July and August are the wettest months in the monthly normals.
