Miami is about 3,055 miles from Reno by road, a very long route, and Florida expects a vehicle registered within 10 days and a license within 30. There is no state income tax.
Miami is a tropical metro of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, and the climate is the first thing that sets it apart from every other page in this series. High humidity and a long storm season shape how and when to move.
Florida's deadlines in Miami-Dade
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles department lists 10 days to register a vehicle and 30 days to obtain a Florida driver license from the day residency begins. Offices are county tax collector offices.

Taxes in South Florida
Florida does not impose a personal income tax. The state sales tax is 6 percent and counties add a surtax of 0 to 2.5 percent, so check the combined rate for Miami-Dade.
Nevada also has no state income tax.
A subtropical year
NOAA's normals for Miami Beach show a January high of 73.6 degrees and low of 61.2, a July high of 87.8 and low of 78.0 and 57.2 inches of precipitation a year, with no measurable snow. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.
The warmest nights are far warmer than Reno's, and a house without air conditioning is uncommon.
Miami housing numbers
The American Community Survey puts the city of Miami at a median home value of $518,100, median gross rent of $1,758 and a renter share of 69.2 percent. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro has a median home value of $443,300 and rent of $1,869.
A high renter share means many apartment and condominium buildings, with their own move-in rules.

Condominium rules and the first week
Many Miami households arrive in condominium or apartment buildings with a move-in schedule, a reserved elevator and an insurance certificate requirement. Ask the building manager for the rules before you choose a delivery date, and share them with the estimator when you book.
The first week then belongs to the county tax collector, utilities and an air conditioning check. The long-distance moving checklist keeps the order straight.
Booking the Miami move with O'Brien's
You book with O'Brien's and an estimator visits your home for a free, no-obligation, itemized estimate with 10 free heavy-duty boxes. Packing and loading happen in Northern Nevada and the Bekins network carries the shipment across the country to Florida.
Your written estimate sets the delivery window. Condominium buildings often ask for insurance paperwork and reserved elevator time, and vault storage from $40 per month keeps the goods safe until the date works. See how an interstate move works.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

Extremely happy with the moving experience. The moving team showed up on time, friendly and polite. They did a wonderful job moving our boxes and furniture to the new location. We moved a three bedroom home and I could not be more pleased with the employees who assisted with the move. Highly recommend O'Brien moving for your move.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
