San Diego is among the farthest California origins, a metro of about 3.3 million residents at the very south of the state. Its truck covers more than 500 miles before it sees Nevada.
Past 500 miles: two driving days
The route block lists 383 miles of US 395, 62 miles of I-15, 37 miles of a truck route on I-215 and 34 miles of I-580. The road distance of 549 miles is about 62 miles longer than the 487-mile line. At 500 miles per driving day, the route calls for two days on the road for the truck.
That matters for scheduling. Pickup, a night on the road and a delivery day all have to fit the window in your written estimate, which is the only source for a delivery date.
From I-15 to the eastern Sierra
The truck leaves San Diego County on I-15, crosses Riverside County, skirts the Inland Empire on I-215, and joins US 395 near Victorville. From there the road runs through the high desert, the Owens Valley and Mono County. Conway Summit, at about 8,140 feet, is the last mountain before Nevada.
US 395 has long rural stretches, so planned fuel and rest stops are part of a long trip. Check Caltrans QuickMap and the NDOT site, especially from November to March.

Reno's July high is about 94, its January lows fall near 26, and it receives 21 inches of snow. The Census shows movers in both directions, with about 411 a year coming to Washoe and about 484 going to San Diego County, although the margin on that second number is large.
