The median home in Stateline has 3.6 rooms, the smallest in our service area, and only about 8 percent of households own, so a Stateline pack is usually a condo or apartment, not a house. O'Brien's crews pack compact homes quickly, and the free in-home estimate comes with 10 free heavy-duty boxes.
Stateline, on the Nevada shore of Lake Tahoe, has about 500 residents and 250 households. Only about 18 percent of homes are single-family detached houses, and of roughly 290 homes, about 170 have two bedrooms and about 70 have one.

Small homes, tight access
Smaller homes pack faster, but they come with different challenges. Condo and apartment buildings have elevators, shared halls, loading zones and building rules. The estimator asks about all of them during the visit, and the crew arrives with pads, runners and cartons sized to the space.
Most Stateline households rent, so the move date is set by a lease. The packing plan is built backward from that date, with time left for cleaning.
Packing a 3.6-room home
A one- or two-bedroom home is usually a one-day pack for a crew. The kitchen takes the most time, then the closets and the bathroom. The crew packs fragile items first and labels cartons by room. A partial pack can cover only the kitchen and the pictures. See partial packing.

Storage between leases
When one lease ends before the next begins, packed goods can go into wooden vaults in the Sparks warehouse, with vault storage from $40 per month. See storage between homes.
The mountain drive
Stateline is about 57 miles and 77 minutes from our Sparks warehouse via I-580 and US 50. The road crosses mountain terrain, and winter weather can affect travel. The National Weather Service forecast office in Reno posts conditions. Boxes and supplies are sold at the Sparks office, open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Sort first, then pack. Set aside what you will donate or discard, clear a path for the crew and keep a bag of daily items aside, such as medicine, chargers and keys. If your building needs a reserved elevator or loading zone, book it early and tell the estimator the dates. Small homes pack fast, so the planning around access matters more than the boxes.
The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
