Moving to Reno from Oregon

Oregon's 30-day window for license and registration

The State of Oregon's New to Oregon page says new residents must register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency and replace an out-of-state license on the same clock. Those rules are for people moving in. If you are leaving, keep Oregon plates and insurance valid until your Nevada registration is complete, and ask a tax professional whether a part-year Oregon return applies.

Taxes: Oregon's income tax against Nevada's sales tax

Oregon's 2026 personal income tax brackets for a single filer run 4.75, 6.75, 8.75 and 9.9 percent, with the top rate on income over 125,000 dollars, according to the Oregon Department of Revenue. Oregon has no state sales tax. Nevada has the reverse: no state personal income tax and a statewide base sales tax of 6.85 percent, with local rates added in Washoe County.

That swap is why a household can come out ahead on paper but feel prices at the register.
