Tucson to Reno is about 846 miles, a 16 h 42 min free-flow drive that adds 133 miles of I-10 to the Phoenix route before it heads north on US 93, I-11 and US 95. Tucson has 547,073 people in the city and about 1 million in the metro area.
Census counts put the flow from Pima County to Washoe County at about 28 people a year (2016-2020), while about 80 a year moved the other way. Arizona as a whole sent about 5,504 people to Nevada in 2024. Tucson sits at 2,698 feet, and Reno sits much higher, so the climate change begins with altitude.
The drive: I-10, US 93, I-11 and US 95
The truck leaves Tucson on I-10 for about 133 miles toward the Phoenix area, then follows US 93 for about 175 miles across northwest Arizona. I-11 covers about 42 miles near Las Vegas, and US 95 runs about 272 miles north through central Nevada to the Reno area. The total is about 846 miles.
At 500 miles a day, the map says two days behind the wheel, with a free-flow time of 16 h 42 min. Because the figure is close to the two-day boundary, a loaded truck with a Sparks appointment may plan an overnight stop in Arizona or Nevada. That is a driver scheduling detail, and your written estimate sets the delivery window.
Most of the miles are in open desert. Heat is the main summer factor, since Tucson's July high averages 100.2 F, and the route reaches northern Nevada with the cooler air and occasional winter ice of a high-desert corridor. Arizona 511 covers the start, and the Nevada 511 site covers the long north-south run through the state.
The route does not touch the Sierra, so there are no summit closures or chain controls on the way in.

Tucson and Reno side by side
Tucson averages 10.6 inches of precipitation and almost no snow, 0.1 inches in a normal year, while Reno averages about 7.4 inches of precipitation and 20.9 inches of snow. The January average high is 66.5 F in Tucson and 47.7 F in Reno. July highs are 100.2 F and 93.9 F.
The table above uses Census figures for the Tucson metro area, with median gross rent of $1,212, a median home value of $319,700 and 34.8 percent of households renting. Reno-Sparks has a median gross rent of $1,592 and a median home value of $502,300, a notable step up in housing cost. Arizona taxes wages and Nevada does not.

How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

3 O'Brien movers came down from Reno to South Lake Tahoe to assist our company moving a lot of big furniture out of a large warehouse. They showed up on-time, were friendly, and were professional and got the job done quickly and diligently. Will definitely use them again.

My family moved exclusively with Bekins when I was young and O'Brien's made it a pleasure to return to this fine local company. I would be pleased to have any members of O'Brien's as friends and highly recommend O'Brien's to anyone needing the services they provide!
